GÁBRIEL FARKAS

singer, actor, painter

Gabriel Farkas is a unique figure in the hungarian music and show world. The combination of his acting, singing and entertaining skills are inimitable.

Gabriel, who was the master of ceremony of the Budapest Moulin Rouge started to play in theaters as musical actor. His main role was the Emcee from the Cabaret musical for ten years, even Harold Prince and Liza Minnelli or Peter Howard rewarded his performances! Gabriel played several shows with different companies like Recirquel Contemporary Circus Company and have worked with Roman Polanski on the Dance Of The Vampire musical.

His first album made the hungarian evergreens on the level of jazz standards

From Cole Porter to Liza Minnelli: a selection of the finest Broadway songs with Gabriel and His Jazz Trio.

For Gabriel, the most exciting pieces of the musical theater are those that became jazz standards and evergreens of popular music. Classic vaudeville shows were easy revue musicals. The deep content wasn’t a requirement, the emphasis was on entertainment, jazz (as the popular dance music of the time), good singers, musicians and dancers. It’s not by mistake that George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Duke Ellington became widely known with musicals.

Broadway Songbook is a combined musical & jazz concert where excellent jazz musicians play jazz versions of popular songs we weren’t aware had originally been written as parts of stage plays. This way, we all can re-discover them for ourselves.

Examples:

Anything Goes, Cabaret, All That Jazz, Big Spender, My Favorite Things, Night And Day, Stepping Out With My Baby, Feeling Good, Lady Is A Tramp.
